CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS

(As adopted at the annual meeting in the year 1882)

1st   The name of this society shall be The Washington Club.

2nd  The object of this society is to benefit it's members socially and intellectually and to  commemorate the birthday of Washington.

3rd   Any person to become a member must be recommended by some member of the society and his or her name presented at the annual meeting, when a vote shall be taken; and in case there shall be no negative vote, each person shall be admitted.

4th   If any member shall be and remain absent from the meetings of the society for two consecutive sessions thereof without sufficient excuse, the name of such absent member shall be stricken from the roll without further action.

5th   The officers of this society shall consist of a President, Secretary and an Executive Committee of three members to be elected annually as the members shall determine.

6th   The duties of the President shall be such as usually appertains to the presiding officers of assemblies.

7th   It shall be the duty of the Secretary to keep the minutes of the meetings of the society, a register of members and such other duties as may be required of him.

8th   It shall be the duty of the Executive Committee to provide a place for holding meetings of the society and prepare an order of exercises for each succeeding meeting and notify the Secretary of the same.

9th   The society shall meet annually on the 22nd day of February or on such other day as shall be designated by the Executive Committee.

10th  The order of business shall be as follows:

  • Call to order by the President at 12 o'clock
  • Dinner
  • Reading minutes of the last meeting
  • Rendering programme
  • Election of officers
  • Presentation of names
  • Pledge of members
